Frequently Asked Questions
How often should a piano be tuned?
Whenever sections of the piano sound out of tune with the rest of the piano, that is a sign the piano is overdue for a tuning. Usually pianos should be tuned annually.
What is the best location for a piano in a room?
Piano's should be placed on an inside wall and away from heater or AC vents. Placing a piano near an open window exposes it to humidity changes in the weather.
Is there a way to tell when my piano was manufactured?
Yes, the serial number on the plate inside the piano will provide that information when checked by the Pierce Piano Atlas. ( I have a copy of that atlas).
Some keys don't play correctly on my piano. Is there anything that can be done to fix it?
Yes, Piano tuners are trained to do repairs to the keys, action parts, pedals, strings, and other piano parts.
We are about to move and wonder what to do about moving our piano.
Pianos should be professionally moved in order to avoid serious accidents to the instrument. Local movers usually charge about $100 to pick up and move a piano in town. Most reputable movers know how to care for a piano on a cross country move.
What do I use to clean my piano?
Avoid harsh abrasive cleansers and metal scouring pads. Don't get the piano wet. The wooden parts can warp. Use a clean cloth and test out your cleaning product first before applying it.
How long can a piano last before it wears out?
Well cared for pianos can last a lifetime!
